Kochi issue unresolved, BCCI prepares for fresh auctions

While the Kochi franchise may still have time till November 27 to reach a settlement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun the paperwork for the bidding of the elusive eighth Indian Premier League (IPL) team.
The BCCI has decided on Mohali and Ahmedabad as the two venues which will be available for the new franchise in the fourth season to choose from. However, the BCCI is closely monitoring development between the two Kochi groups Satyajit Gaikwad and other investors and has learnt that the two parties may not find a middle ground before the deadline.
"As far as our knowledge goes, the two parties are still to settle their dispute. And we all know that the chances of the two sides working together in future is small. This is why we have started the paperwork for a new team in advance," a BCCI official said.
BCCI is taking such a step so as to ensure the bidding process can begin the day after the controversial franchise is terminated. "They have only a few days left and we don't want to waste time. The new bidding process will take some time. We need to have an auction soon after so that we have the teams ready for IPL IV," he added.
Meanwhile, the IPL Governing Council will meet on November 17 in Mumbai, with the focus on approval of tender invitations for TV rights for the rest of the world, global internet, mobile rights and the approval of tender invitations for franchisee rights. The Governing Council will also decide the budget for the fourth edition of the IPL.
