India beat Australia by 7 wickets in 2nd test, win series 2-0

BANGALORE (Reuters) - India beat Australia by seven wickets after tea on the final day of the second and final test on Wednesday to win the series 2-0.
Scores: Australia 478 (Marcus North 128, Ricky Ponting 77) and 223 (Ponting 72; Zaheer Khan 3-41, Pragyan Ojha 3-57) v India 495 (Sachin Tendulkar 214, Murali Vijay 139) and 207-3 (Cheteshwar Pujara 72, Tendulkar 53 not out).

First innings double century-maker Sachin Tendulkar scored the winning runs in India's seven-wicket victory Wednesday over Australia to take the two-test series 2-0.
Tendulkar, who was unbeaten on 53, paddled off-spinner Nathan Hauritz to fine leg to complete the victory, India's first at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in 15 years.
Chasing 207 for a win, India made the target with nearly a session to spare. The Australian bowlers struggled for line and length on a helpful two-paced wicket which had been a cause for worry at the start of the fifth day.
Australia was bowled out for 223 earlier Wednesday, setting India a target of 207 to clinch a series sweep. Australia, which won the toss and batted first, scored 478 in its first innings while India replied with 495.
Tendulkar, who scored 214 in the first innings, took his series aggregate to 403 runs, at an amazing average of 134.5. The 37-year-old Tendulkar also passed 14,000 runs in test cricket.
Rahul Dravid, who shared in a 61-run unbroken fourth-wicket partnership with Tendulkar, remained unbeaten on 21.
Cheteswara Pujara set the pace of the innings with a 72 with seven boundaries. Playing his first test, Pujara batted with poise and confidence and was the dominant partner with Murali Vijay and Tendulkar.
India lost Virender Sehwag, caught behind the wicket by Tim Paine off Ben Hilfenhaus, in the third over. But Pujara, promoted to bat at No. 3 in place of Dravid, and Vijay batted well to frustrate Australia.
Vijay, who had notched a maiden hundred (139) in the first innings, was trapped in front of the wicket by Shane Watson at 89.
Australia resumed its second innings Wednesday at 202 for seven. Zaheer Khan (3 for 41) accounted for the wickets of Mitchell Johnson and Peter George while Shanthakumaran Sreesanth (2 for 48) bowled Hilfenhaus.
